The Liverpool Mozart Orchestra is a chamber orchestra whose members include music professionals in addition to experienced players from a wide range of occupational backgrounds. Founded in 1951, the LMO works with professional conductors and soloists – some well-established, many at an early stage in their career – and performs each concert after a short period of intense rehearsal.
The orchestra is privileged to have played under many distinguished conductors, including Zubin Mehta, John Carewe, Gordon Mackie, Guy Woolfenden, Sian Edwards, Sir Charles Groves, Carl Davis, Charles Peebles, Garry Walker, Edward Warren, Mark Heron and its President, Sir Simon Rattle. Local, national and international soloists have performed with the LMO, including Stephen Hough, Gina McCormack, Martin Roscoe and Peter Donohoe.
In recent years the orchestra has also been pleased to work with superb young performers from Chetham’s School of Music and the RNCM, including Jiafeng Chen, Alexandra Dariescu, and Callum Smart.

With summer hopefully round the corner what could be more apt than to enjoy Mendelssohn’s incidental music to Shakespeare’s timeless comedy? Then pianist Ana-Marija Markovina, plays Mozart’s 24th concerto and we end with Haydn’s 60th Symphony featuring “Il Distratto” which can be loosely translated as “The Nutty Professor”!
With an eye to the future the LMO presents its Patron Scheme to help continue the promotion and encouragement of young performers
We are currently looking for a first flute, timpanist, and percussionist. We also welcome, at any time, approaches from string players playing to a high standard looking to join us. Our requirements for strings may change from concert to concert and season to season.
